Supporting our community

We don’t just work on the Fraser Coast — we’re part of it. Here’s how we give back.

Proudly local since 1996

Skills, equipment and people — behind our community

Surveyors at Work has called the Fraser Coast home for nearly three decades. Over that time we’ve put our surveying, drone and planning expertise behind the community that supports us — surveying the fields and facilities where local kids play sport, helping not-for-profits secure their future, mentoring the next generation, and co-founding one of the region’s biggest charity events. It’s simply part of who we are.

The Origin Story

Rally for a Cause & the Dunga Derby

Some of our proudest community work is with Rally for a Cause and its flagship event, the Dunga Derby — a much-loved Fraser Coast charity that raises funds for local families doing it tough.

The connection runs deep. Our director Mick Irwin came up with the original vision for the Dunga Derby, and Mick and Leigh Staunton were among the charity’s founders — both still heavily involved today. We’ve backed the event with drones, vehicles, technical support and financial support from the very beginning, and turn out in force with more than 20 of our staff taking part since it began.

Hear how it all began, in their own words.

Community infrastructure

Facilities we’ve helped build

Real community assets across the Fraser Coast, delivered with our survey, planning and project-management expertise.

Town planning · survey

FC Precinct Basketball Stadium

We delivered the town planning and survey work behind this landmark facility, guiding it through approvals and accurately onto the ground. It’s now home to the Hervey Bay Basketball Association and its nearly 600 registered players — a venue the whole region benefits from.

Concept · design · survey

Fraser Coast Sports Precinct

As part of the community action group Fraser Coast Sports Plus, we helped shape the concept and design of the precinct and build the community support that got it off the ground. We then delivered the survey work for football and netball to establish their footprints across the 60-hectare Nikenbah site.

Facility development

Urangan Bowls Club

We provided the survey services behind the development of the club’s community facility, from accurate site and level surveys through to construction set-out. Our work gave the project the precise foundation it needed to deliver a modern, welcoming home for members and the wider community.

Survey · project management

Nikenbah Historical Railway Village

We provided surveying services and project-management advice to help guide the development of this heritage railway village at Nikenbah. Our involvement helped the volunteers turn their vision into a practical, staged plan for the site’s future.

Planning · PM · survey

Hervey Bay Athletics Club

We supported the club with project-management and planning advice for its athletics fields and tracks, then provided the surveying throughout development and construction. The result is a purpose-built facility where local athletes of every age can train and compete.

Cadastral · lease

Hervey Bay Surf Life Saving Club

We completed the cadastral survey the club needed to establish its lease area with Fraser Coast Regional Council. That work helped secure a home base for the volunteers who keep our beaches safe.

Helping groups secure their home

Lease surveys for community groups

Many community leases through Fraser Coast Regional Council require a lease survey to be prepared and submitted as part of the agreement — we help local groups get theirs done.

Lease extension

Fraser Coast Community Radio

We assisted Fraser Coast FM with the extension of their community lease through Fraser Coast Regional Council, preparing the lease survey required to be submitted as part of the agreement. It’s the kind of technical work that keeps a much-loved local station secure in its home at Pialba.

Lease application

Beach House Fishing Club

We helped the club apply for a lease of a shed at the Hervey Bay Hockey Club through Fraser Coast Regional Council, preparing the lease survey required as part of the agreement. Getting that documentation right gave the club a firm base from which to grow.

Cadastral survey

Fraser Coast Property Industry Association

We provided cadastral survey services to support the Fraser Coast Property Industry Association, an important not-for-profit voice for our region’s property and development sector. Backing industry groups like this helps strengthen the wider local economy.

Drones at Work · community

Completing a drone inspection of the Hervey Bay Bombers floodlights

Clubs, groups & causes

Backing local teams and organisations

From grant-winning drone inspections to sponsorships, we lend a hand across the region.

AFL · grant support

Hervey Bay Bombers

We completed a drone inspection and reporting of the club’s floodlight towers, giving them the evidence needed for a successful grant application ahead of the 2026 season. It’s a clear example of our drone capability solving a real problem for a local club.

Survey · drone · planning

SSAA Fraser Coast Branch

We provided survey, drone and planning advice to support the branch and the development of its facilities. Drawing on all three disciplines, we helped the group plan confidently for the future of its site.

Equestrian

Fraser Coast Horse Trials

We flew and captured the ODE cross-country course at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park. The aerial footage and mapping gave organisers a clear, detailed view of the course for planning and promotion.

AFL

The Bears, Maryborough

We provided drone flight and mapping support for the Maryborough club, capturing accurate aerial imagery of its grounds. It’s practical data the club can use for planning, maintenance and promotion.

Club sponsor

Bayside Strikers FC

We’re a proud sponsor of Bayside Strikers Football Club, backing grassroots football on the Fraser Coast. Supporting local clubs like this helps keep community sport thriving for the next generation.

Charity

Dunga Derby crew

More than 20 of our staff take part in the Dunga Derby every year, with our vehicles and drones supporting the event on the ground. It’s our whole team getting behind a cause that means a great deal to the Fraser Coast.

Growing the next generation

Work experience for local students

We regularly host work experience students from Fraser Coast schools, giving young people genuine, hands-on time in the field to see what a career in surveying really looks like. Supporting local training and creating pathways for the next generation is an investment in both our profession and our region.

Schools we’ve welcomed students from include Fraser Coast Anglican College · Hervey Bay State High School · Urangan State High School · St James Lutheran College · Xavier Catholic College · Riverside Christian College · St Mary’s Catholic College.
